Background to my mentoring entries
Noakes and I have a nonsexual hierarchical relationship that centers on mentoring, protocol, and service. Our relationship is inspired by historical hierarchical relationships, especially apprenticeships. Noakes serves as my apprentice and protege in writing matters; he also receives guidance from me, and provides service to me, in other areas of life. For example, I might ask him to check transportation information on the Web for me when I'm offline; he might ask my advice on how he can get his dishwashing done regularly. Our interactions, as can be seen from these entries, are fairly mundane, though our etiquette (protocol) is more formal than is standard in most personal relationships in our era.
Noakes is a member of a "boys of leather" club: a community-service club for adult men and women who hold subordinate roles in personal hierarchical relationships. (Up through the mid-twentieth-century, the term "boy" was sometimes used to address adult male subordinates in the military and in civilian life.) The word "boy" appears in these entries in that sense; it does not refer to chronological age. Noakes and I are both in our forties.
The word "sir" (my apprentice capitalizes the word, while I do not, unless quoting him) also appears in these entries in a conventional sense, referring to the person who takes the role of leadership in a personal hierarchical relationship.

(No, we're not doing mature stuff, unless you count us both babbling about the same leather stories.)
